How will photos help you attract your ideal client

Is a picture really worth a thousand words?

Well, I would say it is worth even more! And I’m not saying this because I'm a photographer and I want to go on a trip to Bali at some point (Full disclosure, I actually really do). I am saying this because a photograph is the first thing that will make a potential client stop scrolling.

So, let's go deeper:

When you look at a photo, you don't just look at it, but you start feeling something. Positive or negative. If you film yourself while you scroll through instagram you will notice a bunch of different expressions that you are usually not aware of.

Ok. But how will this help your business?

It's all about doing things with intention. Picture your ideal client, and imagine all the things you want this person to feel when they see your website, social media Profile, Flyers, etc.

For example if you're a coach, you might want them to feel a great Energy and motivated just by looking at your website. Bonus points if you're in the photograph, as they will immediately associate this feeling with you.

Let's imagine you sell candles. You don't want your clients hyped. You want them Relaxed, wanting to be cozy under the blanket, with a book, a croissant & of course your candle.

The Keyword is FEELING!

Either on purpose or not, whatever you upload, will automatically "wake up" a feeling in the person that is looking at it. The more they relate to the feeling, the higher are the chances that they will want to know more about who you are, and what you do. Even the colors you use, will have different effects, but more on that later.

Of course the most important part is to find a way to connect a positive feeling to your business. And here is where the Stock photos usually fail: yes they are taken by professionals, they look good, positive, but they are not you. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you don't look good & positive, I'm also not saying that you should post badly lit up phone photos. I am telling you the reason why investing in a photographer is so important. And not only that: You can work with the best photographer in the world, if you don't have a plan, an intention, it's very probable that the results will not be what you expected.

Now let's do a small exercise:

Imagine you are sitting in your favorite coffee shop & your ideal client walks towards you.

Write on a paper how this person looks like, what their interests are, what's their favorite color, food, etc.

Now think what this person needs from your business, how can you make their life easier or more beautiful.

You don't even need to write full sentences. Just words, or you can draw, whatever comes easier. Doing this, will give you clear perspective of what you need to do, so you don’t have to ask the question we all know so well: “But where do I start?”

So let’s summarize & turn this article into a plan:

1. Become aware that the photographs are the “Show stopper” of your business

2. Find out who your ideal client is, and what you want this person to feel when they see your website, social media, etc.

3. Write everything down.

4. Make a plan with a photographer or create an inspiration Board so you can start working on those pictures.

5. Celebrate your accomplishment!
